Other events will have you race through hazards that can wreck your tires, deal with weaponized drones, perform wheelies, and even take a driver's ed course. For example, one challenge tasks you with running over the correct snowmen and it's fun to try and distinguish them from similar-looking ones. ⛄ Modesīesides simply racing, Hot Wheels Rift Rally features a great deal of variety in its challenges that play with the core gameplay in exciting ways. There are also many cool visual effects such as harsh weather, the fact that the gates come to life with intricately designed structures, and there are themed virtual items scattered alongside tracks, too. I'm still not entirely sure how they accomplished this but it's awesome no matter how you slice it. For example, there are virtual ramps that actually make you feel like your car is jumping in the air as the camera moves accordingly but in real life, the car simply moves forward. In addition to the solid gameplay and nifty collection of vehicles, Hot Wheels Rift Rally features many surprising gimmicks that make its gameplay all the more visceral and enjoyable.

I even got a toilet car which made me and my chums laugh our buns off. On top of that, it's awesome that the vehicle you see on the screen is different to the toy and there is a substantial collection of unlockable cars to earn as you play. First, the controls are fantastic as you're controlling a physical toy car with the DualSense and it's incredibly responsive and intuitive. Once I got everything working and completed the tutorials, I was very impressed with how much fun Hot Wheels Rift Rally is and it was 100% worth going through the rather painful setup process. After that, there were many basic tutorials which tested my patience even further so please be wary of these issues before setting it up for yourself.

So, I eventually hooked my PlayStation 5 up to the modem with an Ethernet cable and it worked after that but it still took a long time to update the car's firmware, etc. The experience will vary drastically based on your internet connection and setup but for me, I could not get Hot Wheels Rift Rally to work through my Wi-Fi no matter how hard I tried. Now, before discussing the actual game, I just wanted to mention that the setup process was much more frustrating for me than it should have been.
